How Altus Leadership came to be
Founder’s Letter
Nearly two decades ago, I attended a high school leadership conference that would change my life. Prior to the event, I didn’t care about my potential or “seizing the day”; I just wanted permission to skip three days of school. Yet, as these stories go, something changed. I changed. I left the conference feeling empowered to do more, and to be more. And so, for the next 13 years, I returned to that organization, volunteering in an attempt to recreate the spark I felt as a 16-year-old for others. While successful at times, that conference could only offer so much to others. I therefore found myself imagining a different organization, one built to support not just participants but also volunteers and communities. I envisioned an organization that could uplift and support anyone seeking to create a positive change in this world.
Five years later, in the fall of 2025, I finally decided to take a risk, and asked friends and family to help me with my vision. 20+ volunteers stepped up, endeavoring to create a new leadership organization. One that would not only teach leadership skills but would create supportive enough spaces for individuals to be their most authentic selves, leading to positive transformational moments. In the beginning, we called this idea the Untitled Leadership Organization (ULO).
To accomplish our goal, we organized ourselves into 6 committees: incorporation, curriculum, culture, training & development, digital tools, and ad hoc. Over the course of the next 12 months, we brainstormed, white-boarded, discussed, debated, white-boarded once again, challenged, re-discussed, and eventually developed the foundations of what we now call Altus Leadership. A leadership organization dedicated to elevating every leader’s journey.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished thus far and can’t wait to see what we develop next.
